Díana Darlene Thompson is a versatile vocalist and characterful performer. Her voice possesses a rare richness and depth for a lyric coloratura soprano, yet is still exceptionally agile and maintains its high, upper extension. In her coloratura repertoire, she is noted for negotiating all [the] pyrotechnics with aplomb and sparkling skill.
Díana holds a Master of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Music degree from Augusta State University, both in vocal performance. She has been seen in the roles of Adele in Die Fledermaus, Miss Silverpeal in Die Schauspieldirektor, Millie in Picnic, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, Sister Genevieve in Suor Angelica, and Yvette/Georgette in La rondine.
Díana is also member of the American Spiritual Ensemble and has performed with the Augusta Opera, Greenville Light Opera Works, Charleston Chamber Opera, Charleston Chamber Orchestra, the Martina Arroyo Prelude to Performance program, and the Singers of Cary. In addition to opera, Díana has also been a soprano soloist in Handels Messiah, Bachs Cantata 4, Haydns Mass in Time of War, Vivaldis Magnificat, excerpts from Gershwins Porgy and Bess, and Beethovens Choral Fantasy.
